BOXSCORE 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. --
Olivia Boerschinger (SO, Neenah, Wis.) and
Amanda Eaton (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) pitched complete-game victories, with Boerschinger throwing a six-hit shutout, as the Augsburg College softball team claimed a doubleheader sweep of St. Catherine University in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at St. Catherine.
Augsburg (12-26 overall, 5-15 MIAC) scored a 2-1 victory in nine innings in the first game, then claimed a 5-0 win over St. Catherine (12-15 overall, 4-10 MIAC) in the second game.
Boerschinger struck out three while not walking a batter and allowing just six hits for the pitching win for the Auggies in the second game, collecting Augsburg's first shutout victory of the season. Meanwhile, Eaton claimed four strikeouts against four walks and seven hits in a nine-inning victory for the Auggies in the first game.
Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) went 5-for-8 in the doubleheader with two runs scored, while
Bekka Kelly (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn.) went 4-for-6 with an RBI, and
Allyson Ruedy (SR, Waseca, Minn.) and
Lauren Hurley (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) hit home runs.
Ruedy hit a two-run homer and Hurley hit a solo homer in the third inning of the second game for the Auggies, giving the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Lindsay Helbach (SO, Amherst, Wis.) doubled and scored on a groundout by
Sarah Buckner (FY, Duluth, Minn./East HS) in the fifth inning, and Dorale singled, stole a base and scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
Dorale went 3-for-4 in the second game for the Auggies, while Kelly went 3-for-3 at the plate. Kaitlyn Luedtke went 2-for-3 at the plate for St. Catherine.
The Wildcats struck first in the first game, as Alyssa Luedtke scored on a single by Jessica Tyminski in the first inning. Tyminski went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Wildcats in the game.
Augsburg tied the game in the top of the seventh inning.
Emily Smith (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) reached base on a walk and scored on a two-out double by Buckner. The Auggies took the lead in the ninth inning, again with two outs. Smith doubled and scored on an RBI single by Kelly.
Dorale, Hurley and
Mary Hildestad (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) had two hits each for the Auggies in the first game.
Augsburg closes its regular season with a doubleheader at St. Olaf on Thursday (5/2) at 3:30 p.m.
