Amanda Eaton (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) and
Olivia Boerschinger (JR, Neenah, Wis.) each pitched complete-game efforts for Augsburg College, but three Macalester College home runs amounted for all the Scots' scoring in a doubleheader sweep of the Auggies in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball action on Sunday afternoon at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Macalester (10-10 overall, 2-0 MIAC) claimed a 5-3 win over Augsburg (8-18 overall, 1-7 MIAC) in the opener, then scored a 1-0 win in the second game.
Eaton struck out seven while walking two and allowing six hits in the pitching circle for the Auggies in the first game, while Boerschinger struck out two while walking just one and allowing four hits in the second game.
But in the first game, a two-run home run by Cleo Nagy (JR, Eugene, Ore./Henry D. Sheldon HS) in the first inning and a three-run homer by Saraswati Wilson (SO, Olathe, Kan./Olathe Northwest HS) in the seventh inning accounted for the Scots' scoring, and in the second game, a solo home run by Miranda Stokes (SO, Perry, Utah/Box Elder HS) was the lone run of the contest.
After trailing 2-0, the Auggies tied the first game with runs in the first and second inning, with
Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) singling and scoring on a throwing error on a double-steal attempt in the first, and
Bekka Kelly (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn.) singling and scoring on an RBI triple by Dorale in the second.
Emily Smith (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) walked and came around to score on an error in the seventh inning for the Auggies.
Kelly went 3-for-3 for the Auggies in the first game, including a triple. Dorale went 2-for-4 for the Auggies in the first game, and Smith had two hits for the Auggies in the second game.
Allyson Ruedy (SR, Waseca, Minn.) had a base hit in each game.
Alisha Barritt (JR, Oklahoma City, Okla./Bethany HS) picked up the pitching win for the Scots in the first game, striking out three while walking three in six innings of work. Brittany Ehmann (SO, Island Lake, Ill./Wauconda HS) picked up the save in the first game, then combined with Stokes for the shutout in the second game, Ehmann pitched the first two innings, while Stokes pitched the final five.
Wilson had three hits in the doubleheader for the Scots, while Stokes and Erin Slater (SO, Federal Way, Wash./Decatur HS) had two hits each.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Wednesady (4/10) at 3:30 p.m., with a doubleheader at St. Olaf.
