Auggies score 13-10 win at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. -- With 10 different players figuring in the scoring, the Augsburg College women's lacrosse team scored its first road win of its inaugural campaign, a 13-10 triumph at Benedictine University on Thursday afternoon.

Rachel Frantz (FY, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS), Kayla Fuechtmann (FY, Circle Pines, Minn./Centennial HS) and Shelby Brion (FY, Clearwater, Minn./Monticello HS) each scored two goals for Augsburg (4-4 overall), with Fuechtmann adding an assist for a three-point performance.

Dezera Sieracki (FY, Wyoming, Minn./Centennial HS) scored a goal with two assists for the Auggies, and Abi Rodstein (SO, Eagan, Minn.), Abigail Dickinson (FY, Rochester Hills, Mich./Adams HS) and Savannah Seeger (FY, Rochester, Minn./John Marshall HS) had a goal and an assist each. Natalie Shaw (FY, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS), Lexi Halvorson (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville South HS) and Shelby Franklin (FY, Chaska, Minn.) also scored goals for the Auggies.

Augsburg scored the first four goals of the game and claimed a 7-2 halftime advantage, outshooting host Benedictine (1-4 overall) by a 13-8 margin. The Auggies ended up outshooting the Eagles by a 30-24 margin in the game. 

Ashley Eliason (FY, New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) had seven saves in goal to score the win for the Auggies, while Irsah Hayat had three saves in the first half and Lauren Mallo had four saves in the second half for Benedictine.

Brion and Rodstein are now tied for the Auggies' lead in goals with 12 each, with Brion having a team-high 16 points. Rodstein has 13 points for the Auggies and Franklin now has 11 points (nine goals, two assists).

Augsburg was successful on 19 of its 27 clearing attempts in the game, while recording 11 draw controls in the game. Halvorson had five draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers from her defending position. She now has a team-best 19 draw controls and 22 ground balls on the season.

Hannah Payne scored five goals for Benedictine in the game, with Samantha Link scoring two goals. Jessica McGinnis, Gabby Rowe and Jackie Andrews also scored for the Eagles.

Augsburg continues its spring break trip on Friday (3/21) at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
