Auggies swept by Dubuque

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 INDIANOLA, Iowa -- It took extra innings for Dubuque to get the best of the Augsburg College softball team in game one of a double header on Saturday afternoon. It ended in a hurry when Hannah Koerperich stepped up to the plate as the first batter in the bottom of the eighth with the scored tied and belted a walk-off homerun to give Dubuque the 5-4 win.

Lindsay Helbach (JR, Amherst, Wis.) led the Auggie attack with two hits and three RBI, while Sarah Buckner (SO, Duluth, Minn.) finished 1-for-2 with an RBI. Bekka Kelly (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) extended her hitting streak to 15 games going 1-for-3 with a walk. Augsburg struggled with runners on base stranding seven. Amanda Eaton (SR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) was handed her fourth loss of the season, surrendering five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts.

Augsburg took the lead in the third on one hit, a walk and two errors when Kelly walked, Lauren Torborg (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) reached on a fielding error advancing Kelly to second then Helbach reached on a fielder's choice advancing Kelly to third. Buckner singled to right field picking up the RBI. Dubuque answered with two runs on two hits in the bottom of the third. Augsburg tied it up in the fifth when Helbach doubled to score Jenna Orth (FY, Melrose, Minn.). Dubuque again answered scoring two runs on three hits in the fifth. The Auggies rallied in the top of the seventh as Helbach homered to left after Kelly singled to tie the score at 4-4. Eaton blanked Dubuque in the bottom of the seventh, and the Auggies went down 1-2-3 before Koerpherich hit the walk-off homer for the win. 

Dubuque stayed hot, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning of game two. They scored one more in the fourth and four in the sixth to beat Augsburg 7-1. The Auggies plated their only run of the game in the third inning when Kelly scored on Ashley Anfinson's (FY, Watertown, Minn.) bases loaded walk. Kelly again went 1-for-3, with Torberg, Buckner and Christa Blaquiere (JR, Edam Saskatchewan) also picking up one hit a piece.
