BOXSCORE 2 PELLA, Iowa -- The upset minded Auggies took an early 4-0 lead on the nationally ranked Dutch, but a pinch-hit grandslam homerun in the bottom of the second tied the game. Central went on to score three more runs and beat Augsburg 7-5, then completed the sweep with a 7-2 victory in game two of the doubleheader.
Bekka Kelly (JR, Columbia Heights, Minn.) extended her hitting streak in game one going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Jenna Orth (FY, Melrose, Minn.) contributed two hits as well going 2-for-3 with a run scored, while
Lauren Torborg (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) picked up two RBI on one hit and also scored twice.
Lindsay Helbach (JR, Amherst, Wis.),
Emily Smith (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and
Ashley Anfinson (FY, Watertown, MInn./Watertown-Mayer HS) each had one hit, while Anfinson also had an RBI.
The Augggies three-run inning in the top of the second was highlighted with a two-run homerun by Torborg, which came with two outs and after Kelly singled down the left field line to score Orth.
Devon Shaut (SR, Merritt Island, Fla.) got the start for the Auggies and threw 5.2 innings, giving up five earned runs on 11 hits and walking three.
Olivia Boerschinger (JR, Neenah, Wis.) relieved Shaut in the bottom of the sixth and faced one batter forcing a groundout.
The nightcap saw the Auggies belt seven hits, but only plate two runs while the Dutch scored seven runs on eight hits. Torborg stayed hot with a double, while
Lauren Hurley (SO, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) was the only Auggie to record two hits in the nightcap going 2-for-3. Kelly's hitting streak ended at 16 as she went 0-for-3 with a walk and came around to score after Torberg's double advanced her to third and Central hurler,Trisha Smith, threw a wild pitch in the top of the seventh. Augsburg's first run of the game came in the fourth when Hurley singled up the middle, a sacrifice bunt advanced Hurley's pinch runner Nguyen to second, Orth reach on an error and Blaquiere singled to center to score Nguyen.
Helbach and Buckner each went 1-for-4 while Smith went 1-for-1 with a walk. Blaquiere went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Amanda Eaton threw innings for the Auggies giving up six earned runs on eight hits with one strikeout.
