Augsburg takes two from Grinnell

BOXSCORE 1 | BOXSCORE 2 LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The Augsburg College softball team swept Grinnell 11-2 and 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 4-10 overall on the year.  

THE BASICS

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies' bats came alive in their fourth doubleheader of spring break as they belted out 14 hits, and scored 11 runs in five innings against Grinnell in game one.
• Augsburg was up 5-2 going into the top of the fifth, then the Auggies exploded for six runs and held Grinnell in the bottom half of the inning to end the game by the NCAA eight-run rule. 
• Nine different Auggies recorded a hit in game one, with Sarah Buckner (JR, Duluth, Minn./East HS) leading the way going 3-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored.
Lauren Torborg (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS) also finished with three hits, going 3-for-4 including a double, an RBI and two runs scored.
Brianna Cline (FY, St. Claire, Minn.) also finished with multiple hits in game one as she went 2-for-4, while Haley Larson (FY, Prior Lake, Minn.) went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Lindsay Helbach (SR, Amherst, Wis.) scattered eight hits, recorded one strikeout, and allowed just one earned run in 5.0 innings of work for the Auggies. 

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies stayed hot in game two recording an identical total of 14 hits on their way to seven runs. This time they spread it around scoring in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings.
• Grinnell finished with nine hits scoring twice in the first and third innings to take a 4-3 before the Auggies scored three in the fifth to take the lead for good. 
• Torborg continued her nice day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a homerun, two RBIs, three runs scored and added a stolen base. 
Jacquline Nichols (FY, Royalton, Minn.)
 was one of four Auggies to record multiple hits in game two, finishing 3-for-4 with a longball, a double, two RBIs, and two runs scored. 
• Buckner and Amanda Niznik (SO, Columbia Heights, each recorded two hits, including a double and an RBI. 
• Helbach recorded her second win of the day, relieving Haley Larson, and pitching 4.1 shutout innings. 

FOR THE FOES
• Grinnell was led by Lydia Stariha and Andi Leff, who each recorded two hits including a double, going 4-for-7 during the doubleheader

• Augsburg travels to Costa Mesa, Calif. for a doubleheader with Vanguard University starting at 4 p.m. on Thursday (3/19).
