Auggies claim 54-28 win over Carleton in MIAC opener

MINNEAPOLIS -- Ayrton Scott (SR, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) and Tyrell Martin (SR, West St. Paul, Minn./Henry Sibley HS) each rushed for 154 yards and each scored two touchdowns, as Augsburg College opened Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football play with a 54-28 win over Carleton College on Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Scott rushed for 154 yards on 18 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns, while completing 15-of-21 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns against one interception. He rushed for a 20-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a 1-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.
• Martin rushed for 100-plus yards for the second time in his three starts this season, rushing for an 11-yard scored in the first quarter and a 64-yard score in the third quarter.
• Augsburg trailed 21-20 at halftime, but outscored Carleton 34-7 in the second half, scoring on five of its seven second-half drives to reach the 54-point mark for the second straight week.
• Scott threw three touchdown passes -- to Derek Ruff (SR, Shoreview, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) in the second quarter, Scott Bossard (SR, North Branch, Minn.) in the third quarter and Jorden Gannon (SO, Roseville, Minn.) in the fourth quarter.
• Joey Sonnenfeld (SR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) caught nine passes for 109 yards to lead the Auggies' receiving corps.
Tiras Bolton (SO, Omaha, Neb./Omaha Westside HS) rushed for 41 yards on six carries, including a 20-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
• Defensively, Raymond Carter (SO, Jordan, Minn.) led the way for the Auggies with 10 tackles, while Matt Bowlin (JR, Chanhassen, Minn./Holy Angels HS) had eight tackles (four solo). 
Tyler Sis (SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) and Christopher Hanson (SR, New Prague, Minn.) each had quarterback sacks. Sis recorded seven tackles (three solo), including three tackles for-loss.
• As a team, Augsburg outgained Carleton by a 534-375 margin. Augsburg had 347 rushing yards and 187 passing yards, while Carleton had 204 passing yards and 171 rushing yards.


FOR THE FOES
• Zach Creighton completed 15-of-28 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns for Carleton -- a four-yard pass to Matt Mensinger on a botched field-goal attempt on the final play of the first half, and a 10-yard pass to Chris Madden in the fourth quarter. Creighton also rushed 15 times for 49 yards.
• Andy Gustafson rushed 15 times for 92 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown in the first quarter.
• Tyler O'Keefe scored on a 10-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter.
• Mitch Heflin led the Knights with 11 tackles (four solo), while Dylan Saline had nine tackles (four solo) and an interception.
