Auggie women's wrestlers open inaugural season

AUGSBURG INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

FOREST CITY, Iowa -- With Gabby Skidmore (FY, Spooner, Wis./Cumberland HS) and Vayle-Rae Baker (FY, Benton, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) sharing the title at 123 pounds, the Augsburg University women's wrestling team competed in its first-ever meet on Saturday, the Waldorf University Open.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Five Augsburg wrestlers competed in the season-opening meet. Skidmore and Baker shared the title at 123 pounds, each winning two bouts to reach the final. Skidmore scored a 5-4 win and a 3:00 pin in her two matches, and Baker scored two 10-0 technical-fall victories to reach the final.
Bel Snyder (SO, Deer Creek, Minn./Wadena-Deer Creek HS) scored a 2:36 pin and a 11-0 technical-fall victory in going 2-2 on the day at 123 pounds.
• At 155 pounds, Marlynne Deede (FY, Springville, Utah/Springville HS) went 2-2 with a 14-4 technical fall and a 1:38 pin, and Melissa Jacobs (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS (Scott West)) went 1-2 with a 10-0 technical-fall victory.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• The meet was the first for Augsburg's inaugural season of women's wrestling, the university's 22nd varsity sport.
