MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University football player Marcus Kimbrough (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Defensive Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday. On Tuesday, he earned national honors by being named to the D3football.com Team of the Week as a cornerback.

Kimbrough tied an Augsburg single-game school record with three interceptions in the Auggies' 37-29 win over Macalester on Saturday. He tied a school record set four times previously -- by Gene Parrish in 1966, Bill Kriesel in 1992, Jason Exley in 1997 and Nate Loughran in 1999.

His first interception, late in the first quarter, stopped a Macalester drive at the Auggie 3-yard line. His second interception was at the Auggie 5-yard line, stopping a Scots' seven-play drive, and his final interception and 34-yard return with 1:19 left to play capped the Auggie win. He also had a pass breakup and four tackles (three solo).

On the year, Kimbrough now has four interceptions, two pass breakups and 16 tackles (11 solo). His four interceptions are tied for second-most among MIAC players in overall statistics.

Kimbrough is the 27th selection to the D3football.com Team of the Week from Augsburg since the award was established in 1999 by D3football.com, a national site that covers NCAA Division III football. He's the second Auggie to be named to the D3football.com Team of the Week this season, after wide receiver Dominic Smith (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) was honored on Oct. 5.

Now 3-3 overall and 3-1 in MIAC play (1-0 in Skyline Division), Augsburg hosts Hamline in the annual battle for "The Hammer" traveling trophy this Saturday (10/23) at 1 p.m., at Edor Nelson Field in Minneapolis.
