Four Auggies named CSC Academic All-District

2022 CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT - VOLLEYBALL

MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Augsburg University volleyball players -- right-side hitter Kevin Boysen (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS), middle blocker Jade Fullerton (SR, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS), outside hitter Emily Kaup (SO, Omaha, Neb./Duchesne Academy HS) and middle blocker Marie Venberg (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) -- were recently named to the Academic All-District Volleyball Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA).

Boysen is a physics and mathematics major with a 3.86 grade-point average, Fullerton is a chemistry major with a 3.93 GPA, Kaup is a marketing major with a 3.60 GPA and Venberg is an environmental science major with a 4.00 GPA. The CSC academic honor is the first for each player, while Boysen and Fullerton have both earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors each of the last three seasons.

17Boysen earned All-MIAC honors for the second straight year in 2022, while also earning American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Region IX Honorable Mention honors this season. Playing in 23 matches (81 sets) in 2022, she finished with 226 kills (2.79 per-set), hitting .251, while also contributing 45 blocks (three solo, 0.56 per-set), 173 digs (2.14 per-set) and 15 service aces (0.19 per-set). Her .251 attack percentage was 10th-best among MIAC players in overall statistics, with her 3.27 points per-set average was also 10th-best in the MIAC. In her career (118 matches, 410 sets), Boysen finished with 870 kills (2.12 per-set), hitting .241, along with 292 blocks (29 solo, 0.71 per-set) and 300 digs (0.73 per-set). Her .241 career attack percentage is tied for ninth-most in Augsburg history, while her 292 blocks are sixth-most.

18Fullerton had the best year of her career in 2022, earning All-MIAC, AVCA All-Region and AVCA Division III All-America Honorable Mention honors, becoming the 14th Auggie in program history to be named an AVCA All-American. Playing in 23 matches (82 sets) in 2022, Fullerton finished with 205 kills (2.50 per-set), hitting .313, tops among Auggie regulars. She finished with a team-best 95 blocks (20 solo, 1.16 per-set), leading the MIAC's overall statistics in total blocks and blocks per-set.. Her .309 attack percentage was third-best among MIAC players. Her 1.16 blocks per-set average ranks 12th-best among NCAA Division III players in overall statistics. In her career (94 matches, 319 sets), Fullerton finished with 576 kills (1.81 per-set), hitting .264, along with 343 total blocks (61 solo, 1.08 per-set). Her .264 attack percentage is seventh-best in school history, while she holds the school record for blocks per-set with 1.08. Her 343 total blocks are second-most in school history. 

19Kaup made an impact in her second season as an Auggie, seeing action in 88 of 89 sets in all 25 matches. She finished the year with 47 kills (0.53 per-set), hitting .085, along with 81 digs (0.92 per-set), 10 block assists (0.11 per-set) and 21 service aces (0.24 per-set). In 37 career matches (108 sets), Kaup now has 62 career kills (0.57 per-set), hitting .082, with 16 blocks (0.15 per-set), 96 digs (0.89 per-set) and 22 service aces (0.20 per-set).

20Venberg also increased her playing time in her second Auggie campaign, appearing in all 25 matches (85 sets). She finished with 42 kills (0.49 per-set), hitting .218, along with 53 blocks (four solo, 0.62 per-set), the third-most blocks for the Auggies this season. In 28 career matches (88 sets), Venberg now has 43 kills (0.49 per-set), 53 blocks (four solo, 0.60 per-set) and 24 digs (0.27 per-set).

Under 13th-year head coach Jane Becker, Augsburg finished the 2022 season with a 17-8 overall record, 6-5 in MIAC play. The Auggies have recorded 15 or more wins in each of the last 14 full seasons (the Auggies played just eight matches in 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

The CSC Academic All-District team is part of the CSC Academic All-America program. Top student-athletes from NCAA Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are nominated for inclusion on the Academic All-District teams. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.50 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. 

The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
