MINNEAPOLIS -- Four Augsburg University men's soccer players -- defender
Drew Collins (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS), defender
Ceazar Daniell (SO, Portland, Ore./Cleveland HS), defender
Jakob Mohrlok (JR, Stuttgart, Germany/Schoenbuch Gymnasium) and forward
Mitchel Munzing (SO, Portland, Ore./Grant HS) -- were named to the Academic All-District Men's Soccer Team, as selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA), it was announced on Tuesday.
Collins is a business management major with a 3.61 grade-point average, Daniell is a mathematics/data science major with a 3.67 GPA, Mohrlok is a business management major with a 3.83 GPA, and Munzing is an undecided major with a 4.00 GPA. Collins has earned Academic All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors each of the last three seasons, and earned CSC Academic All-District and United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region and Scholar All-America honors last season. It is the first career academic honor for Daniell, Mohrlok and Munzing.
Both Collins and Munzing earned
MIAC postseason honors earlier this month, as Collins was named All-MIAC Honorable Mention and Munzing earned All-MIAC honors. Collins earned conference honors for the third time, also being named All-MIAC in 2022 and All-MIAC Honorable Mention in 2021.
Collins finished his career as one of the best defenders in Augsburg history, a steadying presence in the back third throughout his career. Competing in 15 of Augsburg's 18 games this season, he played in 1,252 minutes (83.5 minutes per-game), the third-most minutes of any player on the team, with 11 full-90-minute efforts. He finished with one assist on the year, and was the leader of an Auggie defense that allowed just 21 goals, a plus-31 goal differential and a 1.17 team goals against-average that ranked fifth-best in the MIAC. Collins finished his 70-game career (5,578 minutes, 79.7 minutes per-game) with three goals and five assists for 11 points. In addition to his conference honors, Collins also earned United Soccer Coaches All-Region IX honors in both his sophomore and junior years.
Mohrlok joined Collins as two of the key central defenders on the squad this season, starting 17 games and playing in 1,380 minutes (81.2 minutes per-game), the second-most minutes of any player on the team. Mohrlok scored two goals on the season -- off a free kick in Augsburg's 3-1 win over Saint Mary's on Sept. 16, and the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute in Augsburg's 4-2 win at Concordia-Moorhead on Oct. 7. A transfer who played his first season at Division II St. Cloud State, Mohrlok has played in 35 games in two Augsburg seasons (2,763 minutes, 78.9 minutes per-game), with three goals and one assist for seven career points.
Daniell shined in his first season as a starting defender, playing in 16 games (1,251 minutes, 78.2 minutes per-game). He scored a goal in Augsburg's 5-1 win at Hamline on Sept. 13, and contributed six assists for eight points. He had a pair of assists in two games -- a 4-1 win over Northwestern-St. Paul on Sept. 5, and in the Auggies' 6-2 victory at St. Scholastica on Oct. 21. Daniell has now played in 33 games in his Augsburg career (1,859 minutes, 56.3 minutes per-game), with a goal and seven assists for nine career points.
Munzing had a breakout year in 2023, establishing his presence as a creative goal-scorer and playmaker. He finished the season with seven goals and eight assists for 22 points,
tied for eighth among MIAC players in goals, tied for sixth in assists and tied for eighth in points. He had a goal or assist in eight of his 17 games (1,024 minutes, 60.2 minutes per-game), with two multi-goal games -- a three-goal hat trick in Augsburg's 4-2 win at Concordia-Moorhead on Oct. 7 and a two-goal, two assist game in the Auggies' 10-0 win at Minnesota Morris on Sept. 5. In 35 career games (1,658 minutes, 47.4 minutes per-game), Munzing now has 11 goals and 12 assists for 34 points.
Under 20th-year head coach
Greg Holker, Augsburg finished 8-4-6 overall, 4-1-5 in MIAC play in 2023, earning a spot in the MIAC playoffs for the eighth time since the 2006 season, and fourth time in the last eight full campaigns. Augsburg has recorded eight or more wins in 15 of the last 18 seasons.
The CSC Academic All-District team is part of the
CSC Academic All-America program. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.50 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. Academic All-District honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early December.
The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
