Auggies claim two conference titles at MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Indoor Championships over the weekend, claiming two individual conference titles while placing 10th (men) and ninth (women).

WOMEN: Augsburg 9th/12 (22)
 
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Mohammed Bati (FY, Dodola, Ethiopia, GAP School) secured the first conference track and field title of his career and earned 10 points for the Auggies, winning the 5000-meter run and shattering Augsburg's school record with a time of 14:46.60.
Getinat Asfaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) earned a pair of top-five finishes for Augsburg, placing fourth in the 1000 meter and earning five points with a personal-best time of 2:32.79 and taking fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.77, nabbing four additional points for the Auggies.
Sakariya Hussien (SR, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) placed sixth in the 1000 meter, clocking a 2:33.29 to claim three points for Augsburg.
Varney Conneh (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) grabbed two more points for the Auggies in the 60-meter dash, placing seventh with a time of 7.19 seconds.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Allison Hookom (FY, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) earned a conference title and claimed 10 points for Augsburg in the 400-meter dash, winning the event with a new personal-best time of 58.32 seconds. Hookom also placed sixth and earned three points for the Auggies in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.62 seconds.  • CC Cesare (FY, Crystal, Minn./Armstrong HS) broke her own school record in the triple jump, clearing 10.97 meters to land in fifth place and earn four points for the Auggies.
• The Augsburg 4x200-meter relay team of Mya Bishop (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland HS), Santrice Rodriguez (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Fridley HS), Cesare, and Hookom earned five additional points for Augsburg, placing fourth with a time of 1:48.62.

UP NEXT

• The Auggies will send select athletes to the Wartburg College NCAA Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa next weekend for one last opportunity to earn qualifications for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships the following weekend.
