Five Auggies earn MLC postseason honors

2024 MLC SEASON AWARDS

MINNEAPOLIS -- Five Augsburg University women's lacrosse players earned postseason honors from the Midwest Lacrosse Conference on Friday. Jade Wilson (SO, Waukee, Iowa/Northwest HS) was named an All-MLC First-Team honoree for the second straight year, while Alexa Hoffman (SR, Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) earned All-MLC Second-Team honors. Leila Klym (FY, Lakeville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and Nicole Schuster (SO, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) earned All-MLC Honorable Mention honors, and Mackenzie Galazen (SR, Kimball, Minn./Rocori HS) was named to the All-MLC Sportsmanship Team.

Jade WilsonDespite missing three games due to injury in 2024, Wilson was again one of the top scorers in the MLC, finishing seventh among conference players with 36 goals, adding 13 assists for 49 points. Her 49 points were tied for eighth among league players, and her 13 assists were tied for 10th-most. Wilson finished third among MLC players with 72 draw controls, tied for eighth with 42 ground balls and 12th with 20 caused turnovers. She earned MLC Athlete of the Week honors on offense on Feb. 19 this season, her third career conference Athlete of the Week honor.

She has scored at least one goal in every game of her 28-game collegiate career, with 10 multi-goal games this season and 11 multi-point games. In 28 games, Wilson now has 92 career goals and 15 assists for 107 points, with 111 ground balls, 167 draw controls and 55 caused turnovers. In school history, she now stands fifth in career goals, 13th in assists and tied for fifth in points, while standing third in career draw controls, tied for sixth in ground balls and tied for 11th in caused turnovers.

Alexa HoffmanAn All-MWLC First-Team honoree in 2022, Hoffman earned Second Team honors this season with the best performance of her collegiate career. A defender her first two seasons and attacker the last two years, Hoffman finished the 2024 campaign second on the team in scoring, with 32 goals and two assists for 34 points, adding 46 draw controls, 22 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers. Her 32 goals were ranked ninth among MLC players, with her 34 points 17th-best. She ranked sixth among league players in draw controls. Hoffman scored a goal in 14 of her 15 games this season, with eight multi-goal games and eight multi-point games.

In 56 career games, Hoffman finished her career with 58 goals and six assists for 64 points, along with 77 ground balls, 77 draw controls and 42 caused turnovers. In Augsburg career, history, she stands eighth in career goals, eighth in draw controls, 13th in points, 16th in ground balls and 18th in caused turnovers.

Leila KlymA defender/midfielder, Klym had an impressive debut season for the Auggies, scoring five goals with two assists for seven points, while adding 17 ground balls, 15 draw controls and nine caused turnovers. She scored two goals against Hamline on April 20, had a season-high three ground balls three times and a season-high five draw controls on April 12 against Saint Benedict.

Nicole SchusterIn her second year as Augsburg's primary goalie, Schuster claimed 169 saves this season, a total that led all MLC goalies. Her .442 save percentage was third-best among MLC goalies, and she had a 16.40 goals against-average. She had double-digit save totals in nine of her 13 games this season, with a career-high 21 saves in Augsburg's season finale against Cornell (Iowa) on Feb. 27. In 29 career games, Schuster now has 355 saves, a .425 save percentage, 16.59 GAA and a 6-23 record.

Mackenzie GalazenGalazen was named to the All-MLC Sportsmanship Team, as part of the conference's sportsmanship initiative. Members are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition. 

A three-year starting midfielder for the Auggies, Galazen earned all-conference second-team honors in 2022. She scored five goals with an assist for six points in games in 2024, with 35 ground balls, 27 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers. In 45 games in her college career, she finished with 39 goals and two assists for 41 points, with 106 ground balls, 133 draw controls and 52 caused turnovers. In Augsburg career history, she stands 18th in goals scored, 19th in points, eighth in ground balls, fourth in draw controls and 13th in caused turnovers.

Under interim head coach Mikayla Knudson, Augsburg finished the 2024 campaign 2-13 overall, 0-4 in MLC play.
