Cooper Willis fights off an attack by an opponent during a 2024-25 Augsburg men's wrestling match.• Five Auggies earned All-American honors, including two national runners-up -- No. 3-seeded 165-pounder Cooper Willis (JR, Kansasville, Wis./Union Grove HS) and No. 3-seeded 184-pounder Brandt Bombard (JR, North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS).
• Willis dropped a 6-0 decision to top-seed Matt Lackman of Alvernia (Pa.) in the 165-pound national title match. Lackman recorded a takedown with 49 seconds left in the first period, then scored a reversal with 1:40 left in the second period, and had 2:07 of riding time.
• Willis reached the finals with a 5-0 victory over No. 7-seed Brayden Peet of Wisconsin-Whitewater in Saturday's semifinals. Willis claimed a takedown 30 seconds into the match, an escape in the second period and had 1:53 of riding time to pick up the victory.
• A three-time All-American with fifth-place finishes each of the last two seasons, Willis finished his junior year at 30-2, and is 98-15 in his collegiate career.
Brandt Bombard has control of an opponent during a 2024-25 Augsburg men's wrestling match.• In the third meeting of the season between the two wrestlers, Bombard was edged 2-1 in sudden-victory overtime by No. 5-seed Marcus Orlandoni of Wisconsin-La Crosse for the 184-pound national title. Orlandoni won two of the three meetings with Bombard this season. Bombard scored an escape early in the second period, and Orlandoni tied the match with an escape in the third period. But with three seconds left in regulation, Bombard was given a stalling warning, and with 33 seconds left in the sudden-victory overtime session, Bombard was called for stalling for the second time following a scramble at the edge of the mat, giving the penalty point and the national title to Orlandoni.
• Bombard reached the finals with an 11-2 major decision win over No. 7-seeded Tyler Withers of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (N.Y.). Bombard scored takedowns in each period and built 2:21 of riding time to reach the finals.
• Competing in his first season as a varsity starter for the Auggies, Bombard finished his junior season at 28-6 and is 54-23 in his career.
