Softball earns split at SMU

WINONA, Minn.-- Kylee Persing (SR, Mound, Minn./Mound-Westonka HS) reached base five times and hit a two-run home run to lead the Augsburg College softball team to a split of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Saint Mary's University on Wednesday afternoon.

Augsburg (8-12 overall, 1-1 MIAC) won the first game of the twinbill 6-2, before falling to Saint Mary's (7-5 overall, 1-1 MIAC) in the nightcap by a score of 7-5.

Persing went 5-for-9 with two runs scored and five runs batted in on the day, while belting her fourth home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning to give Augsburg a four run cushion. Persing has now reached base in 12 of her last 13 games.

Allyson Ruedy (JR, Waseca, Minn.) went 4-for-7 with two runs scored, two doubles, and a home run, while teammate Bekka Kelly (FY, Columbia Heights, Minn.) went 3-for-7 with a double and two runs scored for the Auggies. Ruedy's home run gives her a team high six on the season.

Mary Hildestad (JR, White Bear Lake HS) went 3-for-7 in the double header, while teammates Bri Dorale (JR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS), Lindsay Helbach (FY, Amherst, Wis.) and Kelsey Rorabeck (JR, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) had two hits each for the Auggies in the doubleheader.

Amanda Eaton (SO, White Bear Lake, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for Augsburg in the first game, as she scattered six hits and allowed two runs in a complete game effort to earn the win for the Auggies. Eaton struck out three and did not issue a walk in the game.

In game two, the Auggies rallied back from an early deficit, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score at 5-5. St. Mary's would break the tie in the home half of the sixth, scoring two unearned runs and would go on to win by a final of 7-5.

The Auggies return to action this Saturday (3/31) with a doubleheader against the University of St. Thomas. The first game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
