Johnson's career-best leads Auggies

MEET RESULTS

WAVERLY, Iowa -- Zach Johnson (JR, Sartell, Minn.) shot a career-best 3-over-par 147 to lead the Augsburg College men's golf team to its best 36-hole team score of the season at the Wartburg College Spring Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at the Centennial Oaks Golf Course.

After an opening-round 2-over-par 74, Johnson followed up with a 1-over-par 73 to finish with a two-day total of 147, good for sixth overall in the 103-golfer field, and Johnson's career best for a 36-hole event.

As a team, Augsburg scored a 620 total, the best 36-hole event performance for the team this season. Augsburg opened with a 305 team total, its best 18-hole round of the season, and followed with a second-day 315. Augsburg finished in seventh place in the 15-school, 18-team event.

Eric Aughinbaugh (SO, Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS), competing in his first collegiate meet, tied for 18th overall with a 7-over-par, 151 (74-77) finish. Competing as an individual, Justin Popp (SO, Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) set a 36-hole career-best with a 155 (74-81), including an 18-hole personal best 74 in his first round, to tie for 32nd overall.

Brian Deuel (SR, Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) shot a 158 (78-80) total, while Terry Gibbons (SR, Westlake, Ohio) shot 164 (79-85). Drew Bahl (FY, Preston, Minn./Fillmore Central HS), competing as an individual, shot a 167 (80-87) total, and Ryan Lundeen (FY, Cambridge, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) shot 176 (85-91).

Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (4/17) at the Wisconsin-Stout Invitational at the Chippewa Valley Golf Course in Menomonie, Wis.
