Allyson Ruedy (SR, Waseca, Minn.) went 5-for-6, scored two runs and stole three bases to lead the Augsburg College softball team to a split of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Carleton College on Friday afternoon.
Augsburg (8-14 overall, 1-3 MIAC) won the first game of the twinbill 7-5, before falling to the Knights (6-9 overall, 1-1 MIAC) in the late afternoon game by a score of 7-2.
Ruedy reached base six times and recorded two doubles while driving in two runs to lead the Augsburg offensive attack at the plate. With her five hits on Friday, Ruedy raised her season slugging percentage to a team-best .597.
Lindsay Helbach (SO, Amherst, Wis.) went 4-for-6 for Augsburg and hit her first home run of the season, while teammate
Bri Dorale (SR, Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) also went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and four stolen bases for Augsburg. Dorale currently leads all MIAC student-athletes with 18 steals this season.
Lauren Hurley (FY, Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) added two hits for Augsburg, while
Emily Smith (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) added a hit and two runs batted in for the Auggies in the doubleheader.
The Auggies trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning in game one before rallying to score four runs in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead into the top of the seventh. Carleton loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh but could not capitalize as
Devon Shaut (JR, Merritt Island, Fla.) came on to retire the last batter of the inning and earn her second save of the season for Augsburg.
Carleton used a four-run seventh inning to break open the second game and earn a split of the series between the two teams.
Amanda Eaton (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) was the pitcher of record for Augsburg in game one, as she worked 1.1 innings of relief to earn her fifth win of the season.
Olivia Boerschinger (SO, Neenah, Wis.) started both games and struck out four and walked six in 11 innings of work for Augsburg.
Claire Willeck (SO, Eden Prairie, Minn.) went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs to lead the Carleton offensive attack.
The Auggies are scheduled to return to action Tuesday (4/2) when they travel to St. Paul to face St. Thomas in a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
