Amanda Eaton (JR, White Bear Lake, Minn.) pitched seven innings and allowed only one earned run in game one, but the Augsburg College softball team dropped two games of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader with Hamline University Saturday afternoon at Edor Nelson Field.
Augsburg (10-22 overall, 3-11 MIAC) dropped a 5-3 decision to Hamline University (11-9 overall, 7-3 MIAC) in the first game of the doubleheader, before falling in game two of the twinbill by a score of 9-0.
Eaton threw seven innings for the Auggies in the first game, striking out two while walking three and allowing five hits. She threw 114 pitches in the first game, with 72 strikes and did not factor in the decision.
After giving up two runs in the third inning of the first game, Augsburg tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, when
Kelsey Rorabeck (SR, Hudson, Wis./Somerset HS) doubled and eventually scored on a bunt single by
Bekka Kelly (SO, Columbia Heights, Minn.). Both teams traded zeros into extra innings where the Pipers struck again with a run in the top of the eighth. The Auggies loaded the bases in the bottom half of the eighth and eventaully tied the score again after Rorabeck scored on a Lindsey Helbach (SO, Amherst, Wis.) sacrifice fly.
The Auggies earned two quick Piper outs in the top of the ninth, but could not get out of the inning unscathed as Hamline added two runs in the frame to earn a hard-fought 5-3 win.
Rorabeck went 2-for-3 in the first game and scored two runs, while
Emily Smith (JR, Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS) and
Christa Blaquiere (SO, Edam, Saskatchewan) added a hit each for the Auggies in game one.
In the second game, the Pipers built a 9-0 lead after the first two innings to earn the win and series sweep.
Olivia Boerschinger (SO, Neenah, Wis.) pitched 4.0 innings for the Auggies, while Brianna Vela (JR, Kenosha, Wis./Bradford HS) had five strikeouts against no walks in a complete-game win for Hamline.
Allyson Ruedy (SR, Waseca, Minn.)) went 2-for-3 for the Auggies in the second game.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play on Sunday (4/21) at 1 p.m., hosting St. Olaf College in a doubleheader at Edor Nelson Field.
