Evans named MIAC Volleyball Hitter of Week

Corrina EvansMINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University volleyball middle blocker Corrina Evans (JR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Hitter of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Evans had a dominant week for No. 13-ranked Augsburg, accumulating 40 kills (3.33 per-set) while hitting an impressive .351. She also had her best blocking week of the season, with 19 blocks (four solo, 1.58 per-set), as Augsburg claimed three wins, including two in league play, as Augsburg locked up a MIAC postseason playoff berth for the fourth straight year and eighth time in the last 11 seasons.

She had 12 kills, a season-high 10 blocks (one solo) and five digs in a four-set win over Saint Mary's on Wednesday, then had 12 kills on .423 hitting and three block assists in a sweep of Bethany Lutheran on Friday. On Saturday, she tied a season-high with 16 kills, along with six blocks (three solo) and five digs in a five-set win at Bethel, where the Auggies rallied from a 2-0 deficit to claim the important conference win.

Evans now stands second among MIAC players in blocks per-set with a 1.21 average, and fourth in the league with a .317 attack percentage. Among NCAA Division III players nationally, Evans stands seventh in blocks per-set and 18th in total blocks (99). As a team, Augsburg ranks fourth among NCAA Division III teams nationally in blocks per-set (2.39) and seventh in total blocks (227.5). With 322 total blocks (47 solo, school-record 275 block assists) in her career, the junior is just seven blocks away from tying Augsburg's career record for blocks, 329, set by Colleen (Ourada) Enrico '14.

Now 21-4 overall and 7-2 in MIAC play, Augsburg stands in a tie for second place in the MIAC standings entering the final week of the regular season. The Auggies host St. Catherine on Wednesday (10/30) at 7 p.m. at Si Melby Hall, and finish the regular season with a match against conference leader St. Thomas on Saturday (11/2) at 3 p.m., also at Si Melby Hall.
