2020 MIAC SOFTBALL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University shortstop Anesia King (SR, Isanti, Minn./Cambridge-Isanti HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Monday. 

Augsburg's leadoff hitter, King went 4-for-8, with two doubles and two triples, scoring three runs and driving in one in Augsburg's doubleheader sweep of Northland (Wis.) on Tuesday. The shortstop also had a perfect fielding day, with four putouts and seven assists, and was part of a double play.

King led off the fourth inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning of the first game, a 6-0 win. She went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple in Augsburg's 7-4 win in the second game. She hit a double and scored in the first inning, hit another double and scored in the third, then hit a run-scoring triple in the sixth.

On the season, King was hitting .368 (7-of-19) with two RBI, a .429 on-base percentage and .684 slugging percentage, when the Auggies' 4-2 season was halted due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The MIAC Athlete of the Week honor is the last for softball, as the MIAC has canceled the remainder of the softball season. The MIAC Athlete of the Week honor was the second in King's career. She earned All-MIAC honors in 2019 and 2018, and is a two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree.

In King's 112-game (102 starts) college career, she finished hitting .387 (115-of-297), with 96 runs scored, 19 doubles, 13 triples, five home runs, 52 RBI, 22 stolen bases, a .589 slugging percentage and a .504 on-base percentage. She stands fifth in school history in career batting average, tied for seventh in runs scored, fourth in triples and third in slugging percentage.
