Morgan Mangel (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) scored a pair of top-10 individual finishes, leading the Augsburg University women's swimming and diving team in its season-opening event, a quadrangular meet at Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Mangel finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a 25.79-second time, the ninth-fastest time in the event in school history. The school record-holder in the event (24.83 seconds), Mangel now holds nine of the 10 fastest times in school history in the event.
• Mangel also recorded a sixth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, in 58.71 seconds. She also holds nine of the 10 fastest times in school history in the 100 free, including the school record (55.21 seconds).
• Making her collegiate debut,
Beth Milam (FY, Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS) finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle (2:14.30) and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:04.69).

Lily Helmer (FY, Fridley, Minn./Fridley HS) made her college debut in three individual events -- the 100-yard butterfly (1:21.86), 200-yard individual medley (3:00.29) and the 200-yard freestyle (2:31.24).

Kristin Kaldahl (JR, Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East HS) competed in the 200-yard freestyle (2:38.08), and
Maya Merritt (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) and
Sasha Perez-Ortiz (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Hopkins HS) also competed for the Auggies, each in three individual events.
• Augsburg's 200-yard medley relay (Kaldahl, Milam, Helmer, Mangel) finished seventh in 2:11.58, and the 200-yard freestyle relay (Milam, Merritt, Kaldahl, Mangel) finished seventh in 2:01.34.
