MINNEAPOLIS -- Morgan Mangel (SR, St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) broke her school record in the 50-yard freestyle, set a top-10 time in school history in another event, and was a part of two relays that recorded top-10 times in school history, as the Augsburg University women's swimming and diving team finished its abbreviated 2021 season at a quadrangular meet at the University of Minnesota over the weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Mangel broke her old school record of 24.83 seconds with a 24.82-second, fourth-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle on Sunday. She also swam the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.98 seconds, finishing 12th in the field on Saturday.
• The most accomplished sprint freestyle swimmer in Augsburg history, Mangel holds nine of the 10 fastest times in school history in the 50-yard freestyle, including the five fastest times. She also holds nine of the 10-fastest times in school history in the 100 free, including the school record (55.21 seconds).
• Two Auggie freestyle relays also set top-10 times in school history. On Saturday, Mangel anchored the 200-yard freestyle relay, with Kaitlynne Haag (FY, Fargo, N.D./West Fargo Sheyenne HS), Sasha Perez-Ortiz (FY, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Hopkins HS) and Beth Milam (FY, Princeton, Minn./Princeton HS), that set the sixth-fastest time in school history in 1:45.79. The foursome of Mangel, Perez-Oritz, Milam and Haag set the 10th-fastest time in school history in the 400-yard freestyle relay on Sunday, finishing in 3:56.98.
• Haag recorded an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, taking almost two seconds off her previous season-best time with a 1:15.44 finish. She also swam in the 50-yard freestyle (26.66 seconds).
• Milam finished 10th in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:47.80, knocking almost 17 seconds off her previous season-best time. She also swam in the 50-yard freestyle (27.33 seconds).
• In addition to her relays, Perez-Ortiz also swam individually in the 100-yard backstroke (1:14.84), the 100-yard freestyle (1:04.97) and the 50-yard freestyle (28.23 seconds).
• Kristin Kaldahl (SR, Aurora, Minn./Mesabi East HS) competed in the 500-yard freestyle (6:38.48), 100-yard freestyle (1:07.16), 200-yard freestyle (2:29.23) and the 50-yard freestyle (29.63 seconds).
• Lily Helmer (FY, Fridley, Minn./Fridley HS) competed in the 100-yard butterfly (1:25.39) and 100-yard backstroke (1:27.67)
• Maya Merritt (FY, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) competed in the 100-yard freestyle (1:09.39) and the 50-yard freestyle (32.17 seconds).
• Augsburg's 400-yard medley relay (Mangel, Haag, Helmer, Milam) finished in 4:47.88, the 800-yard freestyle relay (Mangel, Kaldahl, Haag, Milam) finished in 9:06.72, and the 200-yard medley relay (Mangel, Haag, Helmer, Milam) finished in 2:05.19.
