Coops named MIAC Volleyball Defensive Player of Week

Mikayla CoopsMINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University volleyball right-side hitter/defensive specialist Mikayla Coops (FY, Belle Plaine, Minn./Belle Plaine HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced on Monday.

Coops contributed 40 digs (6.67 per-set) in a pair of Augsburg three-set sweeps during the last week. On Wednesday, she recorded 21 digs, with two assists and two service aces, in Augsburg's sweep of Concordia-Moorhead. On Friday, she had 19 digs and two assists in Augsburg's sweep of St. Thomas -- just Augsburg's sixth three-set sweep of the Tommies in program history and its first sweep of the Tommies since 2015.

In Augsburg's five matches this season, Coops has a team-best 69 digs (4.60 per-set), ranking fifth in the MIAC in digs and sixth in digs per-set.

Now 4-1 during the abbreviated spring 2020-21 season, Augsburg competes at Hamline University this Friday (4/23) at 7 p.m.
