2020-21 CoSIDA ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA D-III AT-LARGE TEAMS

Daniil GerasimovMINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg University men's hockey goalie Daniil Gerasimov (SR, Moscow, Russia/State School 1944) was selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division III Men's At-Large team as a third-team honoree, it was announced on Wednesday.

An accounting and finance major with a 4.00 grade-point average, Gerasimov earned a spot on the 45-person Division III men's at-large academic squad, made up of a 15-person first team, 16-person second team and 14-person third team. The men's at-large category includes student athletes from 12 men's sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

Across all sports, Augsburg student-athletes have now been honored 49 times with CoSIDA Academic All-America honors since 1981, including 39 honors since 2000 and at least one every year since 2011. It's the third time an Augsburg men's hockey player has earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, after Nate Flynn '18 earned the award in both 2017 and 2018.

A two-year starter in goal for the Auggies, Gerasimov was an All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Honorable Mention honoree in the 2019-20 season. He earned Academic All-MIAC honors in both 2019-20 and 2020-21, and was recognized as an American Hockey Coaches Association All-American Scholar in 2018-19 and 2019-20. He earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in July.

In 33 career games and 30 starts in goal at Augsburg, Gerasimov finished with an 18-13-0 record, .931 save percentage and 2.13 goals against-average, with six career shutouts. In an abbreviated 2020-21 campaign, he started three games with a 2-1-0 record, .934 save percentage and 2.01 GAA with one shutout. His save percentage was second-best among MIAC goalies in overall statistics, with his GAA third-best.

In 2019-20, Gerasimov finished 10-10-0 in 20 starts, with his 2.02 GAA tops among conference goalies in overall statistics, and his .928 save percentage second-best in the MIAC. Among NCAA Division III goalies nationally, he finished 17th in GAA and 20th in save percentage, with his five shutouts tied for third-most.

He has spent the last eight years in the United States after emigrating from Russia, playing junior hockey in Philadelphia before enrolling at Augsburg. He is now working as an audit assistant at Deloitte in the Twin Cities.

The Academic All-America program is administered by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Top student-athletes, who have already earned Academic All-District first-team honors, are eligible for inclusion on the Academic All-America team. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institutions, have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. The Academic All-America ballot is voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members, along with sports information directors in the various divisions. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in NCAA Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

The Division III Academic All-America program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the Division III Academic All-America teams program.
