Auggies compete at Vanessa Seljeskog Classic

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams got their first real taste of Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition this season on Saturday, competing at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic hosted by Macalester College.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Varney Conneh (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) had another strong outing in the sprints, placing second in the 60-meter dash and coming within one hundredth of a second of his personal record with a time of 7.04 seconds. He also placed sixth in the 200-meter dash, crossing the finish line in 23.39 seconds.
Getinat Asfaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) set two personal records on the day, finishing second in both the 400-meter dash and 1000-meter run with times of 53.00 seconds and 2:36.45, respectively.
• Mohammed Bati (FY, Dodola, Ethiopia, GAP School) brought home a pair of top-five finishes, placing fourth in the mile run with a time of 4:24.13 and landing in fifth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:48.36. Both times established new personal records for the first-year standout.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Allison Hookom (FY, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) continued her strong start to her collegiate career, winning the 400-meter dash by nearly four seconds with a new personal-best time of 59.65 seconds and placing second in the 200-meter dash with another new personal record time of 27.13 seconds. Hookom's 400-meter time was the fastest in the conference so far this year while her 200-meter time ranks fourth.
• The Augsburg 4x200 meter relay team of Mya Bishop (JR, St. Paul, Minn./Highland HS), CC Cesare (FY, Crystal, Minn./Armstrong HS), Santrice Rodriguez (SO, Brooklyn Center, Minn./Fridley HS), and Hookom was highly competitive, placing third in a field of eight teams with a time of 1:52.55
Gracie Johnson (JR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) set a new personal record in the 3000-meter run, placing seventh with a time of 11:35.18, shattering her time from last weekend by more than 30 seconds.

• The Auggies will compete at the St. Olaf Invitational on Saturday, January 28 with events beginning at 10:30 am.
