Track and field opens outdoor season in California

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams opened up their outdoor seasons on Saturday afternoon, competing among NCAA Division I, II, and III competition at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Invite hosted by Point Loma Nazarene University while on a spring break trip.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) placed fourth in the 400-meter dash behind only Division I and II competitors, clocking a time of 58.03 seconds, a new personal best in the outdoor season and the third-fastest in school history. Hookom also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing sixth with a time of 2:18.20, the sixth-fastest time in school history.
Gracie Johnson (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) competed in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time in her collegiate career, clocking a time of 12:07.94 to place third. Johnson also participated in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 2:37.06
Annabel Lantz (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater Area HS) competed in the 1500-meter run, clocking a time of 6:37.19. Lantz also participated in the 800-meter, finishing in 3:15.32.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Mohammed Bati (SO, Dodola, Ethiopia/GAP School) kicked off the outdoor season with a bang, winning the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:46.21.
• Getinat Asfaw (SR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) finished seventh in the 800-meter run, logging a time of 1:57.84. Asfaw also ran the 1500-meter run, finishing 15th with a time of 4:03.55.
• Kameron Smith (FY, Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) made his outdoor debut in both the triple jump and long jump, placing fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 12.33 meters and landing in 11th place in the long jump after clearing 5.93 meters. Both marks sit just outside the top 10 in program history.
