Auggies set personal records at Joe Sweeney Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Competing alongside NCAA Division I, II, and III student-athletes, the Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Joe Sweeney Invitational hosted by the University of St. Thomas on Wednesday afternoon.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Mohammed Bati (SO, Dodola, Ethiopia/GAP School) broke his own school record in the 5,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 14:28.17 to place fifth overall and third among NCAA Division III participants. Bati's time ranks third in the MIAC and 48th in all of Division III at this point in the season. 
• Kameron Smith (FY, Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) set a new personal record in the triple jump, clearing 13.26 meters on his third attempt to place fourth overall and second among NCAA Division III competitors. Smith's mark ranks as the fifth-farthest in the MIAC this season and the sixth-farthest in school history. Smith also competed in the long jump, placing 11th with a distance of 6.13 meters.
• Getinat Asfaw (SR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) clocked his fastest time of the season in the 1500-meter run, finishing in 4:02.86 to place 14th.
• Hassan Abdi (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) set a personal record in the 400-meter dash, posting a time of 54.23 seconds to place 17th overall.
Alex Chan (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Groves Academy) broke his personal record in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 25.39 seconds.
 
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) set a new personal record in the 200-meter dash for the second time in the last two weeks, clocking a time of 26.29 seconds to finish in sixth place overall and first among Division III competitors. Hookom's time ranks eighth in the MIAC this season and 10th in school history. 
Gracie Johnson (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) also set a new personal best in the 5,000-meter run, shaving more than 20 seconds off her previous mark with a 18:13.42 clocking to place 12th overall. Johnson's time sits 16th in the MIAC this season and third in program history. 

UP NEXT

• The Auggies will have one final tune-up before the conference championships at the Hamline University Meet of the UnSaintly on Friday, May 3 with events beginning at 3:30 pm.
