Auggies claim three titles at MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Highlighted by four all-conference honorees in five different events and three individual conference championships, the Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at Klas Field on the campus of Hamline University.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Mohammed Bati (SO, Dodola, Ethiopia/GAP School) secured a pair of conference titles, winning both the men's 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. In the 10k on Friday evening, Bati claimed the crown with a time of 30:44.03, more than 25 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. In the 5k on Saturday, Bati clocked a time of 14:32.73 to win the event by more than two seconds. A two-time All-MIAC honoree and one-time conference champion over the last two indoor seasons, Bati has now claimed three conference titles and four All-MIAC selections in his first two seasons on the track.
• Kameron Smith (FY, Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) shattered his personal best distance in the triple jump, clearing a distance of 13.87 meters to claim the conference title and all-conference honors. With that mark, Smith now ranks third in school history in the event. Smith also competed in the long jump, placing 12th with a distance of 6.28 meters. A two-time all-conference honorable mention in the 2024 indoor season, Smith collected a total of three conference honors in his first season at Augsburg.
Getinat Asfaw (SR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) claimed a top-ten finish in the 800-meter preliminaries on Friday, placing 10th with a time of 1:57.89. Shareef Oty (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) also competed in the event, setting a personal record with a time of 2:00.84 to place 17th.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Gracie Johnson (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) claimed All-MIAC honors for the first time in her career, placing third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal record time of 11:25.22, the second-fastest clocking in school history.
• Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) secured an All-MIAC Honorable Mention nod in the 800-meter run, placing fourth and setting a new personal best with a time of 2:14.85. With that time, Hookom now ranks third in program history in the event. The honorable mention selection marks the sixth conference honor of Hookom's young career, and her second in the outdoor season.
• Takia Campbell (FY, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) placed 18th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.23 seconds.

UP NEXT
• A select group of Auggies will compete at the Augustana College Midwest Qualifier on Wednesday and Thursday with one last opportunity to qualify for the national meet.
