Bati sets two school records at Snowshoe Open

MINNEAPOLIS – Highlighted by a pair of new school records by Mohammed Bati (SO, Dodola, Ethiopia/GAP School), the Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams competed among NCAA Division I, II, and III competition at the Snowshoe Open hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday afternoon.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

• Bati began the afternoon by breaking his own school record in the mile run by more than two seconds, clocking a time of 4:15.20 to finish in third place. Later in the meet, Bati shattered the school record in the 3,000-meter run, another mark that he already owned, by nearly 15 full seconds with a time of 8:24.31. Both times rank second in the MIAC this season. 
Getinat Asfaw (SR. Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) secured an individual victory in the 800-meter run, clocking a time of 1:59.34. Shareef Oty (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Burnsville HS) finished second with a time of 2:03.43 and Bereket Wondimu (SR, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) was just behind him in third with a time of 2:03.63.
Kameron Smith (FY, Arlington, Texas/Mansfield Summit HS) set new personal records in two events, finishing second in the triple jump with a distance of 12.94 meters and landing in fifth place in the long jump with a mark of 6.40 meters. Both distances put Smith in the top six in school history in each event.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Allison Hookom (SO, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) claimed the individual title in the 400-meter dash, clocking a time of 59.38 seconds. Annabel Lantz (JR, Afton, Minn./Stillwater Area HS) also competed in the event, finishing in 12th with a time of 1:16.97.
• Takia Campbell (FY, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) competed in the 60-meter dash, clocking a new personal-best time of 8.65 seconds to finish 20th.
• Gracie Johnson (SR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) also set a new personal record, placing 10th in the mile run with a 5:28.92 clocking.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will turn their attention towards the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships next Friday and Saturday in Northfield, Minn. on the campus of St. Olaf College.
