Auggies make season debut at St. Thomas Invite

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams opened up the 2023 season on Friday afternoon, netting four individual event wins among NCAA Division I, II, and III competition at the St. Thomas Invitational.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

• Mohammed Bati (FY, Dodola, Ethiopia, GAP School) carried over his cross country success to the track and field season, winning the 3000-meter run by more than 10 seconds with a time of 8:56.14 in his first collegiate track race.
• Varney Conneh (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) opened his senior campaign on a high note, clocking a preliminary time of 7.20 seconds to qualify for the 60-meter dash finals and placing fifth in finals with a time of 7.15 seconds. He also found success in the 200-meter dash, placing second with a time of 23.92 seconds.
• Fritz Landherr (SR, Tracy, Minn./Tracy Area HS) also finished in the top half of the field in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 24.52 seconds to place sixth.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Allison Hookom (FY, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) was outstanding in her collegiate debut, winning the women's 400-meter dash with a time of just 59.73 seconds. Hookom also competed in the 200-meter dash, finishing fifth among 16 runners with a time of 28.23 seconds.
Brooklyn Conrad (FY, Ortonville, Minn./ Ortonville HS) also had a strong first outing as an Auggie, finishing first in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 2:36.33.
Gracie Johnson continued the trend of strong collegiate debuts, winning the 3000-meter run with a time of 12:12.13.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will compete at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic hosted by Macalester College next Saturday, January 21 with events beginning at 10:30 am.
