NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams continued their indoor seasons on Saturday, competing among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition at the Tostrud Center on the campus of St. Olaf College at the St. Olaf Invitational.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
•
Mohammed Bati (FY, Dodola, Ethiopia, GAP School) competed in the 5000-meter run for the first time in his collegiate career, winning the event by more than 27 seconds and breaking Augsburg's school record with a time of 14:55.68. His time was just over two tenths of a second faster than that of Augsburg's previous record holder Michael Tesema in 2013 (14:55.90). Bati also brought home first place in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:57.29.

Getinat Asfaw (JR, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) took home another event win for Augsburg in the 800-meter run, recording the sixth-fastest clocking in school history with a time of 1:59.11.

Varney Conneh (SR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) continued his streak of dominance in the sprints, winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.15 seconds and placing fourth in the 200-meter dash. Augsburg's
Kpeweh Smith (SR, St. Paul, Minn./John Marhsall HS) competed in the 60-meter dash for the first time this season, placing second with a time of 7.27 seconds.
• Augsburg's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Asfaw,
Sakariya Hussien (SR, Hopkins, MInn./Hopkins HS),
Fritz Landherr (SR, Tracy, Minn./Tracy Area HS), and
Bereket Wondimu (Jr, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) placed second in a field of nine teams, clocking a time of 3:33.99.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS

Allison Hookom (FY, Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) nabbed the lone event win for the Auggie women in the 400-meter dash, setting a new personal record and clocking the second-fastest time in Augsburg history at 58.92 seconds. Hookom has now entered the 400-meter dash three times in her career, winning the event on each occasion. She also competed in the 200-meter dash, placing fourth with a time of 26.80 seconds, a time that ranks ninth in school history.

Gracie Johnson (JR, Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS) competed in the 5000-meter run, placing second and recording the fifth-fastest time in school history with a time of 19:36.11.

• The Auggies will compete at the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota next Saturday (2/4) with events beginning at 11 am.
