Conneh earns All-MIAC honors at MIAC Championships

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up on Saturday and Varney Conneh (JR, Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park HS) and Sakariya Hussien (JR, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) each earned All-MIAC honors for the Auggies.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Conneh placed fifth in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash with a personal best time of 6.63 seconds before placing third and earning six points for the Auggies with a time of 6.66 seconds in the finals. His third-place finish earned him All-MIAC honors and marked his highest career placement at the MIAC Track and Field Championships, having previously finished sixth in the 60-meter dash at the 2020 MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
• Hussien set a new Augsburg school record and earned All-MIAC honorable mention honors and four more points for Augbsurg with a fifth-place finish and time of 2:32.66 in the 1000 meter. He also came within a place of scoring in the 800 meter, finishing ninth after clocking a time of 2:00.13.
• The distance medley relay team of Getinat Asfaw (SO, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS), Fritz Landherr (JR, Tracy, Minn./Tracy Area HS), Bereket Wondimu (SO, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS), and Hussien finished seventh with a time of 10:55.42, nabbing two more points for the Auggies.
Getinat Asfaw (SO, Eagan, Minn./Rosemount HS) made his MIAC Track and Field Championships debut, placing 11th in the 600 meter and 15th in the 800 meter and setting new personal records in both with times of 1:26.10 and 2:02.30, respectively.  

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
• Jordan Terry (SR, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) came within one place of scoring in the long jump, finishing ninth with a distance of 5.03 meters (16' 6')
• Brianna Parsons (SO, Oakdale, Minn./ North St. Paul HS) finished 10th in the 55-meter dash preliminaries with a new personal-best time of 7.63 seconds, missing out on finals by just two spots. Mya Bishop (SO, St. Paul Minn./Highland HS) placed 23rd in the 55 meter with a time of 8.13 seconds.

UP NEXT
• The Auggies will now set their sights on Wartburg Last Chance Meet in Waverly, Iowa on Friday (3/4) for what will be their last indoor competition before the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships.
