MIAC, regional playoffs set for Auggie winter sports

MINNEAPOLIS -- It's winter sports postseason time! Augsburg winter sports are active in several Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and NCAA regional playoffs coming up this week. Here is a guide for all the Auggie action that's coming up.

Augsburg's men's and women's basketball and men's and women's hockey teams are all in MIAC postseason playoff action this week. For all MIAC postseason playoff games, tickets are $10 for adults and $2 for students (children ages 5 and under are free). There are no senior discounts. ALL Augsburg faculty, staff and alumni must pay admission. The only passes accepted for admission are MIAC-issued passes and pass lists for Augsburg student-athletes and coaches administered by the athletic department.

Augsburg's athletic department will allow FREE admission for ALL AUGSBURG STUDENTS to attend any home playoff games this week at Si Melby Hall (basketball) or Ed Saugestad Rink (hockey). Students must show their Augsburg ID for entry to the playoff games.

Please note that due to the expected heavy snow forecasted for Tuesday (2/22), the MIAC's men's and women's basketball playoffs have been shifted back a day, with quarterfinal games on Wednesday (2/23), semifinal games on Friday (2/25) and championship games on Sunday (2/27).
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The MIAC regular-season champion Augsburg women's basketball team (19-5 overall, 19-2 MIAC) will be the top seed in the MIAC postseason playoffs, with home-court advantage throughout the playoffs. Augsburg will host No. 9-seed St. Olaf (9-17 overall, 7-15 MIAC) in a quarterfinal game on Wednesday (2/23) at 5:45 p.m. at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg swept St. Olaf in its two games this season, winning 71-52 on the road on Dec. 11 and 58-42 at home on Feb. 5. St. Olaf advanced to the quarterfinals with a 62-57 win at No. 8-seed Saint Mary's in a first-round game on Saturday.

Should the Auggies win on Wednesday, they would advance to host a semifinal game on Friday (2/25) at either 5:45 or 7 p.m. (depending on if Augsburg's men's basketball team is also hosting a semifinal game) at Si Melby Hall, against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 5-seed Saint Benedict (15-10 overall, 11-10 MIAC) and No. 4-seed Hamline (18-6 overall, 16-5 MIAC). If the Auggies advance to the MIAC playoff championship game, it would host it at Si Melby Hall on Sunday (2/27) at an afternoon time to be announced, with the winner receiving the MIAC's automatic bid to the 64-team NCAA Division III National Tournament.
