The only Augsburg wrestler ever to earn multiple All-American honors in a single season, Adams won the NCAA Division III individual championship meet at 134 pounds in 1983 and also placed second at the weight class in the NAIA championship meet, the only year Augsburg competed in both organizations’ national tournaments. Adams won MIAC championships in 1982 and 1983, earning the Larson Award fro MIAC tournament MVP and Rory Jordan Award for the most falls in the least amount of time at the 1983 meet. He was Augsburg’s Senior Honor Athlete in 1983. After graduation, he served as an assistant coach on the Auggie staff for 10 seasons. He received his master’s degree in education from the University of St. Thomas, and has taught in the Anoka-Hennepin School District for the past 15 years. He received a Teachers Outstanding Performance award from the district during his tenure, and has served as wrestling head coach at Coon Rapids High School for the past 10 years. Adams youngest son, Jason became an All American in 2008, creating the first father soon All American’s in Augsburg’s history. Adams lives in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, with his wife Cathy and children Ryan and Jason.
