Cliff Casteel, Class of 1996 … A dominant wrestler at Augsburg, Casteel secured All-American honors in two seasons. Casteel finished eighth nationally at 158 pounds in 1994, and finished third at 167 pounds at the 1996 national meet. He claimed MIAC titles in both 1996 and 1997, posting an overall career record of 69-16 at Augsburg. Casteel was also a member of the football team in the 1994 season, earning a spot as the team’s lead running back. Casteel was an elementary education major and special education minor at Augsburg, earning NWCA Scholar All-American honors in 1995 and being named Augsburg’s men’s honor athlete in 1996. After graduating from Augsburg, Casteel served as a student assistant coach for the Auggies in the 1996-97 season. Cliff earned his master’s degree in special education from the University of St. Thomas, going on to work as a special education teacher and wrestling, football, track and field, and baseball coach at Faribault High School. Cliff and his wife, Heather, have three sons, Cole, Cael, and Carson, and live in Faribault, Minnesota.
