Wabner was an outstanding linebacker in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, a team captain in the 1981 and 1982 seasons, and an All-MIAC and team defensive MVP in the 1981 season. He earned MIAC and Midwest Player of the Week honors in 1980 following 21-10 victory at St. John’s, Augsburg’s last victory on the road over the Johnnies. A health and physical education major at Augsburg, he worked at Northwest Health Club for eight years following graduation, starting as an executive consultant and eventually working his way up to become a department supervisor. He also served as a football and basketball coach for four years in Spring Lake Park, with the football team winning the state title in 1991. In 1993, he took a job as club manager for the Northland Fitness Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota, and purchased the business in 1995. Wabner and his wife, Laurie, have four children, daughters Meghan, Kelsey and Courtney and son Luke, and live in Clearwater, Minnesota.
