Gildseth played both basketball and baseball at Augsburg and was a baseball team captain. He was also student body president and a former assistant to the president at Augsburg. Gildseth went on to receive his Ph.D. and was vice chancellor of administration, business, and student life at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
