Anderson played basketball for four years, was a team captain, MIAC Most Valuable Player and NAIA All-American in 1972-73. He ranks fourth on all-time school scoring list with 1,537 career points. After graduating from Augsburg, he received his master’s degree from University of Minnesota in 1985 and his PhD in 1989. Anderson is currently a professor in Miami (Ohio) University’s Department of History and International Studies.
