Trost was an Augsburg student for just one year – his senior year of 1980-81 - but made an impact on both the basketball and track and field teams during that magical season. Trost became the first Augsburg athlete ever to qualify for a national meet and earn All-American honors in track and field. He finished third in the NAIA outdoor national meet in 1981 in the high jump with a 2.14-meter (7-feet-0) effort, a school record that still stands. He also wont he MIAC title in the high jump in 1981. In basketball, he was a member of the Auggie squad that won the MIAC championship (later forfeited) in 1980-81, qualifying for the NAIA national tournament. After graduating form Augsburg in 1981, Trost played professional basketball in New Zealand (1984-85) and in England (1986-87). He graduated from the Logan College of Chiropractic in 1986. He earned mention the Oxford Who’s Who Elite Registry of Extraordinary Professionals in 1992-93, was honorary co-chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee Physicians Advisory Board in 2001. Trost and his wife, Glenys, have three children, Shaista, Damian, and Adriana, and live in Fort Collins, Colorado.
