Mike Kennedy ’79 (Soccer/Golf) ... All-MIAC selection in 1977 and 1978 ... Scored 12 goals and 16 assists for 40 points in his career (1975-78), currently ranking t-15th in school history in points, t-9th in school history in assists ... Team captain in 1978 ... Mike Kennedy, Class of 1979 … Mike Kennedy was a key member of both the Augsburg men’s soccer and men’s golf teams during his Auggie tenure. As a midfielder in soccer, he earned All-MIAC honors in both 1977 and 1978, scoring 13 goals with 18 assists for 44 points in his career. He currently is tied for sixth in school history in career assists and tied for 15th in points. Mike was a team co-captain in 1978, and was a member of teams that won the MIAC title in 1975, finished third in 1976 and second in both 1977 and 1978, reaching the NAIA playoffs all four years with a 47-12-10 record in his four seasons. In golf, he was team captain his senior year, highlighted by a first-round 73 in the 1979 MIAC championship first round, tying for the conference lead. Mike was a business administration and accounting major at Augsburg, later earning his MBA in finance from St. Thomas. He worked for 10 years in management at Northwest Airlines, and later for 30 years with U.S. Bank as a vice president of relationship management. He has been active in the Minnesota soccer community, receiving Minnesota Youth Soccer Coach of the Year honors. He also was part of a Guinness world record for the longest soccer game played, playing for 43 hours without subs in 1977. Mark and his wife, fellow Auggie alum Emilie Nystuen, have been married for 45 years, have children Barrett, Phillip and Kelsey, and three grandchildren, and live in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
